Air & Ground Transportation

There are three major airports in the DC Area (DCA, IAD and BWI) for which details are listed below. Attendees flying into any of the three airports may take advantage of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) public transportation services. Options vary from each airport so please check the WMATA website (http://wmata.com) for information on specific routes, times and fares. Sample routes are outlined below; however, it is recommended travelers check the WMATA website for any schedule and/or route changes. Note: The hotel is across the street from the North Bethesda (Red Line) Metrorail station. The hotel does not provide shuttle service.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

Distance to meeting venue: 23 miles

Estimated travel time via Metrorail: 50 minutes

This airport may be the best choice for Attendees traveling within the continental US. It does have more limited flight schedules than the two other airports and, as a result, fares can be higher. However, it is convenient due to the accessibility of the Metrorail station connected to the Airport, which can deliver travelers safely and cost-effectively to the North Bethesda Flint (Red Line) Metrorail Stop located directly across the street from the Bethesda N Marriott Hotel & Conf Ctr.

Metrorail Instructions: An elevated Metrorail station is connected to the concourse level of Terminals B and C at Reagan National Airport. Metrorail farecards may be purchased at machines located at the entrance to the station.

1. Use either of two enclosed pedestrian bridges on the concourse level which connect directly to the station.
2. Take the Yellow Line train towards Greenbelt.
3. Exit at the Metro Center station.
4. Transfer to the Red Line traine towards Shady Grove.
5. Exit at the North Bethesda station, which is located directly across the street from the Bethesda N Marriott Hotel & Conf Ctr.

Washington Dulles Int’l Airport (IAD)

Distance to meeting venue: 25 miles

Estimated Travel Time via Bus/Metrorail Combo: 1 ½ - 2 hours

International Attendees traveling from outside of the continental US may find that using Washington Dulles Int’l Airport is a better fit for their air travel needs as it provides for customs facilities and caters more to the international traveler.

Bus/Metrorail Combo Instructions: The Dulles Airport Metrorail station is connected to the main terminal by an indoor pedestrian tunnel. Metrorail farecards may be purchased at machines located at the entrance to the Station.

1. From the Dulles Airport Metrorail station, take the Silver Line towards Largo Town Center.
2. Exit at the Metro Center station.
3. Transfer to the Red Line train towards Shady Grove.
4. Exit at the North Bethesda station, which is located directly across the street from the Bethesda N Marriott Hotel & Conf Ctr.

Baltimore/Washington Int’l Airport (BWI)

Distance to meeting venue: 36 miles

Estimated Travel Time via Bus/Metrorail Combo: 1 ¼ - 2 hours

While Baltimore/Washington Int’l is an international airport, its location is the furthest from the Bethesda N Marriott Hotel & Conf Ctr, which may make travel by taxi time consuming and more expensive.

Bus/Metrorail Combo Instruction: Take the MTA Commuter Bus 201 from BWI Airport to the Metrorail. There are two bus stops at the Airport. One is located on the lower level of the International Concourse and the other stop is located on the lower level of Concourse A. The bus picks up outside at the bus shelter. Follow the signs to "Public Transit." Get off at the Shady Grove Metrorail station.

1. From the Shady Grove Metrorail station, take the Red Line train towards Glenmont.
2. Exit at the North Bethesda station, which is located directly across the street from the Bethesda N Marriott Hotel & Conf Ctr.
