Session Description: Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques are transforming nearly every sector of our life and the economy, including health care. Artificial intelligence and ML is transforming the way we approach drug discovery, design clinical trials, recommend more personalized treatments and make medications safer. Furthermore, healthcare data are often available to payers and health care systems in real time, but are massive, high dimensional and complex. This presentation gives an overview of basic ML concepts and provides an introduction to a few commonly used ML techniques and their practical applications in pharmaceutical outcomes research. This presentation will also outline and discuss the challenges/limitations and risks relating to the use of real-world data and ML methods.
