Daniel Gonzalez, PharmD, PhD
This month’s Retrospective Interview focuses on Daniel Gonzalez, PharmD, PhD. Danny is currently an active member of the ACCP Honor & Awards Committee, is a past member of the ACCP Annual Meeting Program, Education and Education Partnerships Committees and a past Co-chair of the Student Outreach Committee, now known as the Student, Trainee & Young Professional Committee. Since receiving the ACCP Student Abstract Award in 2009, Danny completed his PhD and a post-doctoral fellowship, and transitioned into a faculty position at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In his own words, Danny shares his thoughts on what the ACCP membership has meant to him: "Through serving on the Student, Trainee & Young Professional, Education, and Honors & Awards Committees, I have been able to meet other clincal pharmacologists and contribute to ACCP. ACCP offers educational, leadership, and networking opportunities that are valuable for all clinical pharmacologists. I highly encourage ACCP Trainee Members to get involved in this organization early in their career and continue to be a part of it after they complete their training."
How long have you been a Member of ACCP? I joined ACCP in September 2008 as a Student Member and became a Member in 2015.
How has receiving the Student Abstract Award impacted your career? Receiving the ACCP Student Abstract Award early in my graduate training allowed me to appreciate the value of attending the ACCP Annual Meeting. I still remember the Student Outreach Event at that ACCP Annual Meeting in San Antonio and connecting with senior scientists in the field that I still keep in touch with today.
What advice would you give to current ACCP Trainee Members regarding the importance of receiving an award like this? Awards like this one provide an opportunity to present your work at a national meeting and begin to develop your professional network by connecting with other ACCP Members. These awards are competitive and thus are an excellent way for your research to be recognized at the national level.
